It's the Steam version of the game, by the way (I've seen that the Origin interface may cause problems with the game's performance). Those fixes seem to have mitigated the issue, but I still get sudden drops in framerate and low-res textures, specially the former when I'm walking around the big open spaces of the Presidium. I've tried a few solutions like running it in compatibility mode with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (EDIT: just noticed my computer -W8.1- won't let me run it in Service Pack 2 compatibility mode, just Service Pack 3 compatibility mode, are there any workarounds?), and this. My PC has good specs (i7, GTX 850M), and I shouldn't have these issues. Strange, given that I'm on the same machine that used to run it flawlessly just a few months ago. However, upon starting ME1, I have found that I suffer from low framerates and the game sometimes loads low-res textures. This should import your save into Mass Effect 2. Then click the button to 'Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games.' Usually Mass Effect saves are in C: > Users > Username > My documents > BioWare > Mass Effect > Save. After N7 day I was feeling nostalgic of the series and decided to download and play the trilogy again. From the menu tree on the left, click 'Save Games'.
